Therapy is my calling!
I would love to be a rock star or rapper, but if you heard me sing or rap, you would tell me not to quit my day job.
Hi, I’m Renee! I have always been a therapist; I didn’t know that was what I was doing. In high school, my classmates would come to me and tell me their deep, dark secrets. All I knew to do was listen, ask questions, and sometimes offer solutions while supporting the person’s decisions to move forward for themselves.
I never shared what was said to me with any other classmates. I didn’t know that what I did with my classmates was a job. It wasn’t until my husband asked me to do this with him approximately 15 years ago. I told him I had to pray on it, which I did! When I prayed, God reminded me of high school. I replied, “Send me, I will go!”
Here I am 15 years later, walking in my divinely orchestrated calling.

LCMHC, LCAS, NCC
Achieving that calling took work.
After leaving the military, I attended Fayetteville State University (an HBCU) for the first three years of my undergraduate degree. Then, life was being life, and I had to put school on the back burner.
When I returned, it would take me two years to finish at Fayetteville State University, so I finished my last year at Liberty University. Seeing my momentum, I pursued my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling.
Currently, I hold a Clinical Mental Health Counseling license (LCMHC) and a Clinical Addiction Specialist license (LCAS) in North Carolina, and I have earned National Board-Certified Counselor credentials (NCC). Additionally, I hold a nationally recognized certification in Life Coaching through Liberty University and Mindvalley. Finally, I am a certified Yoga instructor with the Yoga Alliance.
The evidence-based modalities I use include:
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
- Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Informed
- Narrative Therapy
- Emotional Freedom Techniques
- Yoga
- Tai Chi
When I’m not working,
I wrestle any fish that bites my hook, scale mountains, navigate a forest, and sleep in a tent (voluntarily!). To tune out the madness of the world, I often get lost in a good book with my book club. When I want to let off some steam, I enjoy crafting furniture and transforming wood into whatever I envision.
Maintaining my health is essential, so I enjoy sweating profusely at the gym or dancing with my dance partners through the night. To support social connections, I like to have intellectual conversations over meals with my family and friends (who patiently listen despite the food).
How do I give back to the world? As a veteran, I give back by volunteering on my off time as an instructor and instructor trainer with Army Family Teambuilding. I also volunteer with various other organizations through an organization that strives to improve people’s lives.
In my more significant spare time, the most exciting thing for me is jet-setting around the globe with fantastic people who hopefully don’t mind my funny pranks.
