FAQ

Where is the office located?

We conduct therapy via telehealth or meet clients in various locations because, let’s face it, not everyone loves the classic couch setup. For instance, one client prefers our deep discussions over lattes at a local coffee shop. Another likes to combine therapy with exercise, so we chat while walking on a track.

One adventurous client and I walk in the woods on a trail, getting in touch with nature while working through issues. And then there’s the fishing enthusiast – I join him on the lake for sessions where we reel in fish and insights.

The location varies based on the client’s preference, making therapy as flexible as a yoga instructor in a Cirque du Soleil audition.

What are your office hours?
We keep flexible office hours to accommodate your busy life:

Mondays: 1 pm – 8 pm
Tuesdays: 10 am – 8 pm
Wednesdays: 9 am – 6 pm
Thursdays: 10 am – 8 pm
Fridays: 1 pm – 5 pm (reserved for make-up sessions and emergencies)
Saturdays: Closed (even superheroes need a day off!)
Sundays: 4 pm – 7 pm (telehealth only, because who wants to leave the house on a Sunday?)

How long is a typical session?

Our therapy sessions generally last 40-55 minutes – just enough time to dive deep without requiring scuba gear.

What is a free initial phone consultation?
A free initial phone consultation is a 15-minute chat to understand why you’re seeking therapy and what you hope to gain. It’s also a chance to see if we click, like a first date, but with fewer awkward silences.
What do I do to get started? How do I make an appointment?

After our initial consultation, if we’re a good fit, you’ll send us your details – name, phone number, address, email, date of birth, and emergency contact information–via a HIPAA-compliant email or phone number. We’ll schedule your first session once your insurance is verified, and you complete the paperwork. It’s as easy as pie but with fewer calories.

What is the hourly fee? How do I pay? Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept some insurances, but we’re ditching them due to the headaches they cause. The insurance companies we work with set the hourly fee. We plan to move to Superbills so you can deal with the insurance dragons directly.

Payments, including co-pays and session fees, are due no later than 10 minutes before each session starts. If not paid, we will cancel the session faster than you can say “therapy.”

Can I cancel an appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?

You can cancel an appointment, but if you do so within 24 hours of the scheduled time or don’t show up, a $50 fee is payable before your next session, along with any co-pay or deductible due.

What age range do you work with?
We work with individuals aged 15 to 99. Sorry, toddlers and centenarians – we love you, but we’re sticking to this range.
Who is your perfect client?
Our ideal client is anyone focused on solutions, ready to work on their issues, and open to understanding and doing work outside therapy. If you only want to vent, remember friends and family are free!
Do you work with men? Women? Couples? Adolescents?
We work with men, women, adolescents, and couples.
Do you work with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions?
Absolutely! Diversity is our jam – we embrace all backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session involves reviewing the required disclosures, limits to confidentiality, what you can expect from us, and answering many questions. Feel free to bring your questions, too!
What is therapy like with you?
Our therapy style is laid-back and suggestive. We focus on addressing root causes, not just symptoms.
How long will I be in therapy?
Therapy duration varies. We might start weekly or biweekly and taper down as you make progress.
Does anyone cry in front of you?
Yes, people cry in front of us – military men, too. Sometimes, I’m the only safe place for people to let it all out.
Do I have to tell you everything?
It would help if you shared enough so we can help you piece together the puzzle of your life.
Who benefits from therapy?
Therapy benefits you, your therapist, and society. You gain new insights, we learn from you, and we improve the world together.
How do you work with clients?
We’re straightforward and suggestive, helping you find answers for yourself without sugarcoating.
Is there anyone you won't see?
Yes, we prefer not to work with those seeking self-diagnoses from the Internet, telling us how to do therapy, or those who are unwilling to face their issues.
What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
Watching clients achieve their goals and learning from each of them makes this job incredibly rewarding.
What do you do for fun?
Renee likes dancing, reading, hiking, camping, fishing, woodworking, puzzles, biking, traveling, public speaking, writing, singing (badly), learning new things, eating great food, volunteering, and meeting new people.
What do you do for self-care?
Renee does all the above activities and dedicate Saturdays to doing nothing she doesn’t want. She’s also on a journey to connect with her newfound biological family, which has been incredible.
What apps make your life better?
Apple Music, Mindvalley, Waze, Netflix, Safari, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Canva, CamScanner, Acrobat, WhatsApp, Notes, Zoho Mail, Bitmoji, ChatGPT, YouTube, and Shazam enrich our lives for various reasons.
Am I allowed to ask personal questions?
Ask away! We might not answer how you expect, but we’re open to questions.
